Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 9, 2006 Members Posted July 9, 2006 When Christ said "It is finished" and then died on the cross, what was it that was finished? Was it the work of salvation? If so, then was His resurrection not necessary to the work of salvation? <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
David Koot Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 I would say that what was finished was the core of the plan of salvation. That is, Jesus came to this world, lived a perfect life as a person, did not yield to Satan's temptations or be dissuaded from His purpose, and died to pay the price for all our sins. Because of that core, the rest of the plan of salvation, from Christ's resurrection on down through the final destruction of Satan and the end of sin, was made possible. Without it, none of that would be possible. Dave Quote
olger Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Good question Rudy. Sin is not easy to deal with, we learned that in the Sanctuary. Every newspaper headline speaks to us that it isn't over yet... It will be. But it isn't yet. olger Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Norman Byers, N.D. Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 It is Finished. The Promise of God Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. The lies and works of the devil 1Jo 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Joh 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil 2Ti 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death , and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: The old covenant and it's ordinances Heb 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all ( the heavenly sanctuary ) was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: 9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; The Perfect Sacrifice Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. These apply to, "It Is Finished" Norman Quote The unconditional pardon of sin never has been, and never will be. PP 522

The devil is still around. Was Jesus maybe referring to His specific work in the plan of salvation as being finished? That there was no more He was required to do for salvation to be a reality for humanity? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. The groundwork had been completed. Now it was time for the Heavenly work though Jesus was not eager to die. That was one step in the process He would've like to've skipped. Members phkrause Posted July 9, 2006 Members Posted July 9, 2006 I believe that it also says that satan no longer has access to heaven. He is now confined to this planet and to await his fate and/or realizing that is time is short. Read Revelation 12:10-12. According to David Asscherick this is when Christ died on the cross, after saying it is finished. Now satan will really becomes that roaring lion. pkrause Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 9, 2006 Author Members Posted July 9, 2006 ::ponders the final hours of Christ's life:: I find it truly amazing that the last *work* Jesus did before His death was the salvation of the thief on the cross. I'm wondering if another aspect of "It is finished" meant that Jesus was passing to *us* the torch of revealing the gospel of grace? Dr. Shane Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 At this time Jesus has already been seperated from the Father. The sins of the world had been laid upon Him. He wasn't exactly having a good day. Could it be that He was refering to His earthly life? [...quickly exitting] Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
