This is National Geographic Channel's synopsis the "Secrets of Revelation" program on the National Geographic Channel tonight. One of the promotional clips shows Pastor Doug Batchelor for approximately 2 seconds and also questions if the Apostle, John was losing his mind. It might be a good idea, for those taping the program to watch it the first time to see if it's worth taping, if so, tape it the next time the program is broadcast (there are at least 3 more chances for taping). As Pastor Doug has said, he does not know how much of the taped interviews with him will end up on the editing floor. Most of these "investigative" programs about Bible subjects usually have me yelling at the television "you need to read your Bible". At least with this one I know that at least one person interviewed does know the content of his Bible - Pastor Doug Batchelor! I will be watching the program and possibly taping it for a couple of friends. There were several pastors and scholars interviewed for a minute or so at a time, thrown in amongst lots of erroneous narration and horrible pictures of Christ, Pastor Doug Batchelor didn't appear until 30 minutes into the hour-long program. My husband says Pastor Doug may have said 20 words in the entire program. They did show a few seconds of a church service at the Sacramento Central SDA Church. I think my husband was looking for the duct tape! I was kept saying "that's not true" rather emphatically!!! There were a couple of my friends that had asked me to tape the program after watching it once. I called them and said it wasn't worth the tape. That's my opinion only. Anyway. It was what I expected, but not what I hoped it would be! Maybe some of you will have a totally different opinion of the program. Pockey Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 I was disappointed too. Pastor Doug was shown for like maybe 20 seconds total. There was a mix of theories presented, some I agreed with, some I didn't. I guess I had way too high expectations regarding the presentation of prophecy, but now that I think about, there's only so much you can show in an hour program. Some good parts about it, were that it questioned the rapture, and it also questioned the theory of eternal hell. Also, perhaps the best thing about the program is that hopefully it will stimulate those who watched it to seek out the truth for themselves. Quote

They just stick a few expert's names in there to legitimize the situation, which is what they did with Doug Bathelor. Still, he got some name exposure and recognition that he probably wouldn't of gotten otherwise. So, maybe that is the positive. Otherwise, that was a waste of time. puddles Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 My husband and I watched it and both came to the same conclusion. Being the type of organization the NG is, would we have expected it to have produced a show any different that what we saw? NO. What amazed my husband was that DB was even on the show to begin with. I was somewhat surprised to see the title of "prophetic speaker" rather than "Director/Speaker, Amazing Facts" under his name (not that that would have made any difference to the world as we know it). All in all, we were disappointed but not surprised at the presentation NG showed. They spent more time there at the end talking about the AF/AM pastor that has started saying there isn't going to be a hell as most folks think there will be. :2cents: Quote

Pockey Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 Dear Friends, We appreciate the prayers and words of support from so many regarding the Secrets of Revelation documentary. This Bible verse comes to mind: “So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes” (Isaiah 5:2). If you have seen the broadcast, you realize it was a great disappointment--mostly chaff, very little wheat. We have learned that after the program was completed by the producers, top executives at National Geographic chose to edit out most of our footage. The crew recorded more than three hours of interviews and spent thousands of dollars flying us up to the cave in Southern California. I think most people know that National Geographic is not a religious organization and does not have a burden to convince people about Bible truth, so what we hoped would be given a little light was axed by executive decision. There is good news: In spite of the overall message of the program, a number of people have already used the National Geographic special as an opportunity to reach out to their friends and family. One man wrote us the following: “Immediately after this show, I promptly put in Pastor Batchelor’s tape on the second coming of Christ to show my brother the truth about this topic. I was not going to let the devil mislead my brother away from God! After we watched the video, I asked him which one was in line with the Bible … and he wasted no time in saying that [Pastor Doug’s] video was true and not that mangled mess we had watched on the National Geographic Channel. “I also gave him The Prophecy Code DVD set, along with the Amazing Facts Study Guides and a Final Events. … He is now very interested in learning more of God’s wonderful message. I pray that he watches all of the DVDs, studies all of the guides, and comes to know God and keep His Commandments.” Likewise, I encourage you to maximize your opportunities to share God’s Word with others and to continue to pray that God will open doors for us to share His end-time message with the world. Here’s more good news: We’re providing an even better opportunity in a little more than a month. Despite our sadness at the editing decisions that were made for Secrets, God can still work this for good. What a shame for the National Geographic to do this type of "bait and switch" to so many who were expecting high quality production from NG. Unfortunately I was unable to see the program; my cable doesn't carry the NG channel. But then again maybe it was just as well. I really appreciate all these reviews from those who did see it. I was happy to see in the letter from Doug how one man was able to use the broadcast, limited in content and truth though it was, as a springboard for further interest and study. LD Quote LD

I called Amazing Facts the day after viewing "Secrets Of Revelation" and told them how sorry I was that National Geographic gave him so little time and made a mess of the whole subject too! Fortunately, I don't really have to do "damage control" with my friends and family. I seem to be the only one that gets the National Geographic Channel! But I hope that those who did view the broadcast will be urged by the Holy Spirit to seek the truth! Actually, it's almost a blessing the information was so mixed up! I am one who would be wanting to find out which pieces of information mentioned are accurate! I will be watching the program Pastor Batchelor mentioned that will be on the PAX channel.
