Normal- the movie

Just saw a movie the other day, called Normal...

It was the story of a Christian couple, who had just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Soon afterwards, the husband confided in a counselling session with their pastor that he had a heavy burden that he had been carrying for many years. He felt that he was a woman in a man's body, and that he would go forward with plans for a sex change surgery

The rest of the movie features the family, friends, colleagues and church family of this man trying to cope with the news and altered life

If you were this man's wife, or child, what would be YOUR reaction? Have you known anyone in this position?

What are your thoughts? This situation is becoming more common...

I don't know about anyone else, but I would be devastated beyond words. And very angry. <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> It would definitely take a long time and a great deal of therapy <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/couch2.gif" alt="" />for me to work through all the issues that something like this would bring up......what an inutterably awful situation for this family to be in!! <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/yucky.gif" alt="" />

That is my knee jerk response.

Honestly,I feel for anyone in that situation. I saw an epidode on one of the afternoon talk shows, or was it on 60 min or one of those? about a couple in just that situation. The husband went through with the surgery. They are still married and sleep in the same bed, but are celibate, because as the wife states, she is not a lesbian. They have 2 children.

It was interesting to see the wife's reaction even after a number of years living this way. She loves "her", but really misses her husband. Saying that, she kinda turned her head, and I swear there were tears in her eyes.
