Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 31, 2021 Moderators Posted August 31, 2021 Probably few would expect to see an article in the Review that is devoted Irenaeus, an early Chruch Father. Well, check it out: https://www.adventistreview.org/2109-22 phkrause and Gustave 2 Quote Gregory
Gustave Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Liked the article expect for the last part. Still, it's great to see the ECF's getting some positive exposure in contemporary SDA Literature. Definitely an improvement from the former position held while Ellen White was alive and for a long time after she passed. Signs of the Times, June 20, 1922 The work of apostasy proceeded during the centuries following the birth of Christ until there was erected a counterfeit of every essential truth of Christianity. William D. Killen says in his preface to "The Ancient Church :" "In the interval between the days of the apostles and the conversion of Constantine, the Christian commonwealth changed its aspect; rites and ceremonies, of which Paul nor Peter ever heard, crept silently into use, and then claimed the rank of divine institutions." In order to hold the attention of the heathen and advertise its importance among them, the church was led to transfer the ostentation and outward ornaments of pagan worship into the very bosom of Christian doctrine. This shameful compromise with the vain and opera bouffe method of worship was the logical result of the speculative, mystic, and allegorical system of Bible interpretation on which the early church fathers wasted their efforts.
