It will open in the summer of 2007. The 280,000 square-foot store will be built next to Portland International Airport, on the southwestern corner of I-205 and Airport Way. It will be located at the eastern end of Cascade Station, a 120 acre mixed use development. Seventy-five bicycle racks and two light-rail stations will provide convenient access for workers and customers. The store will also offer home delivery service. “We are thrilled to enter the greater Portland and Vancouver area with a second home in the Pacific Northwest,” said Pat Merwin, IKEA real estate manager. “We look forward to welcoming more than 350 coworkers into the IKEA family when the new store opens.” The future IKEA Portland will have 50 different room settings, three complete homes, a supervised children’s play area, and a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates. It will serve American dishes as well. Family friendly features will include a children’s IKEA area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store. There are currently are 235 KIEA stores in 34 countries, including 28 in the U.S., where the company is planning to open three to five stores a year. aldona Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I LOVE IKEA! They have some great stuff. And their prices are reasonable compared to some other furniture retailers. I used to love browsing around their store soon after I got married when we were first setting up our home. Have a look inside...I promise you, it's only ugly on the outside! aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Fran Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hey, someone forgot to tell me Wal-Mart was Ugly! <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/oops.gif" alt="" /> If I don't get my weekly fix at Wal-Mart, I begin withdrawal symptoms. I am scared to death to go to IKEA. Moderators Gerr Posted July 27, 2006 Moderators Posted July 27, 2006 Easy there. I get my dog food at Wal-Mart. A Sab School teacher asked his class one day, "Have any of you ever heard a voice from above?" To which one replied, "Yeah. Attention, all Wal-Mart shoppers....." Gerry Quote
