Barbara Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 OKay here I was going about my day when my girls come in and tell me Mommy there is a hole in the back yard. I was thinking oh it just a little hole maybe something they dug. NO sir it is 4 feet across and 2 feet deep. They set up their pool this morning and filled it and the water ran over a bit, but not enough to mach that big of hole. We have notice a bit of settling in the area but really didn't think that much of it. I am glad this happed durring the day time. It could have been painful to find it at 10:30pm when Paul goes out to check on the dogs food and water. Quote .....Love others as well as you love yourself. Matt 22:39 (The Message Bible)
Halfstep Denise Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hi, Barbara! Obviously I haven't seen the hole, but given all the problems we've had in California with sink holes just recently, I would be getting concerned. But again, I haven't seen your new ground depression! Good thing you did discover it during daylight hours! Barbara Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 At one time berfore we lived here there was a tree that got removed and we are think the hole is a result of the ground settling over time. Quote .....Love others as well as you love yourself. Matt 22:39 (The Message Bible)
Halfstep Denise Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 That's good to know! Moderators Gerr Posted July 28, 2006 Moderators Posted July 28, 2006 Beware!!! Homes have been swallowed up in huge sink holes in Florida!!! Gerry Quote
Dottie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 The sinkholes in Florida are complicated. Under all that sand the ground is made up of sponge-looking rocks which hold water. When there is a dry season, the water is the source of all drinking and irrigation water. The underground rock becomes empty. Then when there is a rainy season, the ground on top holds a lot of water then the spongy stuff collapses. Hence a sinkhole. That's the best way I can explain it. I can't remember all the proper terms etc., but one never knows where a sinkhole may appear. Quote
