Not using people's preferred pronouns is a human rights offense, a Canadian tribunal ruled while settling an employment dispute.

The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal ruled in favor of Jessie Nelson, a British Columbia restaurant server who is biologically female but identifies as nonbinary. Nelson, who asked colleagues to use "they" and "them" pronouns, was repeatedly called "she" and "her" by former colleague Brian Gobelle,

Years ago, I attended a fine woodworking seminar for several weeks north of San Francisco. There were several lesbians in attendance.  I became friendly with one. Turns out that even though she was a lesbian, she was looking to get pregnant. When she informed me that she was a lesbian, I laughed and said, "Oh, I don't believe that. Lesbians are usually Jewish New Yorkers with a boxy build and a pointed nose, short black hair."  This lady was anything but that. She didn't say anything. I ended up driving her back to SF because she had a large piece of furniture to take home.

When we got back to SF, her "friend" was waiting for her: Jewish New Yorker with a boxy build, short black hair and a pointed nose. Put a lady like that in new Levis, a button down Oxford short sleeved shirt, and penny loafers.

Life was much simpler in those days.
