We just got a call from a woman (on the toll-free line) who was angry with us for having the name of our store (ABC) on our shopping bags.

She says she can't throw hers in the garbage because it has the picture of the cross on it and the word "Christian". To her it would be sacreligious

She doesn't know how to dispose of it...

What would YOU advise?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Doug, that is a GREAT idea!

I wonder, does she shop there very often? Maybe she can just save them and use them every time she comes in.

Hi, Gail!

I think I understand a little of what she's feeling, but not as intensely.

The ideas expressed here are great!

If all else fails she can send it to me! I promise not to use it as a trash bag!

I used to have this dilemma when wondering what to do with an old Bible. To me it didn't seem right to chuck away something you considered precious. Then a girlfriend said to, Just think of all the germs on those old pages- it must be pretty unsanitary

I guess it's like the Ganges river- sacred to the Indians but polluted nonetheless (in a physical sense). It may be holy but it's not cleansing itself...

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Observant Jews have a similar belief - that anything which has the word "God", or words referring to anything holy, should not be thrown out with the trash or burnt. The only way of disposing of it properly is to bury it.
