GHansen Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 I eat very little "fake meat" product; nevertheless, it's something that can be very useful for people transitioning to an animal free diet. Big problem is that nearly all wfpb advocates e.g., McDougall, et al., hate the stuff. WFPB advocates, mostly self educated in nutrition M.D.'s, have huge followings on Facebook, tens of thousands of members in their groups. Much of what is being promoted is very similar to what EGW wrote about diet i.e., no oil, few nuts [some are against nuts completely] avoidance of any animal product which is not from healthy animals. One of the major differences is snacking. EGW was against it. McDougall, for example, recommends eating 6 or more small meals a day for people trying to lose weight. Dean Ornish has a spiritual component to his program. He recommends yoga. Trust in divine power was one of EGW's recommendations for optimal health. What will it profit a man if he has a cholesterol level below 150 but loses his soul? Companion brand, an Asian company, has/had the most extensive selection of meat substitutes, including a complete line of fake seafood such as shrimp, abalone, and others. Might need to live near a Chinatown to easily access them. WFPB physicians mostly detest "junk food" vegetarians. They point out that one can eat bags of chips, fake cheeses, processed grain products and still be overweight and generally unhealthy. Nuts remain controversial, mainly due to their caloric density. Very few nuts contain a lot of calories. Pritikin, who got this movement started in more recent times, considered EGW inspired, had read everything she wrote on health. He's the one most of these physicians are indebted to--a Jewish engineer. Quote
