This is a suicide prevention hotline, especially for adolescents and teens.

Being a kid and wishing you were dead is no fun.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I discern you speak from personal experience, Pam. I'm hoping the residual affects are pretty much gone.

Keep looking up!!

You discern correctly. I tried to commit suicide three times. There's really no earthly reason why I ought to be alive today....other than God stepping in at the last minute.

I don't want to hijack this thread with *that* story. Perhaps if anyone is interested I will write about it in another thread.

****

No one - child or adult - should ever feel they are worthless. I guess that's why I get on such a toot whenever I hear the phrase *you must DIE TO SELF* . . . the very last thing someone who feels worthless anyhow is to hear a mantra like that being repeated over and over at them. Even if it is followed up by words about life in Christ, it won't make a difference because the *worthless* person is only going to hear the first words that are said.

Suicidal people need hope, not condemnation.

I coudn't agree with you more. I would like to suggest that the individuals that give that advice, desire only the best for you. OTOH IMHO I believe it adds just another straw to the heavy burden already being born by the person wishing to check out early, the last thing they need. For the person who doesn't have a deep love for all of humanity, it isn't necessarily possible to render the best help. Bringing a person to Jesus in prayer is often the best solution for the person who cares, as well as for the person who needs the care.

While their are many who have been blest by that poem of the footprints in the sand, where Jesus says where the other saw only one set of footprints, that was where He was carrying them. In my eyes, there is only one set of footprints all along the journey of faith, and that is where Jesus is carrying me. I really hope you find that experience to be yours, if that is your desire.

I really hate to say this, but a suicidal person needs more than just prayer. Yes, they DO need prayer, but too often it seems like people do not want to get involved. They do not want to listen. God forbid that anyone might actually believe that they should be their brother's keeper.

I remember a guy I went to school with. He hadn't been to church for years. I recently found out that several months ago he committed suicide. And the church members all said, "what a pity; so sad; he was in the prime of his life." But nobody could remember the last time one of them had visited or talked to him.

Nice words don't bring a person back.

Agreed. A person with a far better record on living the Christian life than I, said in essence, "We should do everything we can to accomplish that for which we pray."

[:"red"] "....and one of you says to them, " Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?

" [/] James 2:16 NASB

OTOH, it has been my experience that individuals who primarily see others lacking who don't meet their needs, end up with a very similar attitude as Adam, a convenient way of shifting responsibility to others than themselves.

Agreed again. However because I know this will never change as long as the nature of man is subject to the prince of darkness, I often pray that our Father will send the person to meet the need, who is willing and able.

As a for instance, I once needed a large sum of money to keep my house from being forclosed. I didn't have the money. After praying for the Lord's help I approached a number of the brethren who I felt might be capable, telling them of my plight and asking them if I could borrow from them.

Well, 99% turned me down. Only 1% responded favorably, and that with only 1/3 the amount I thought was needed. I thanked God for what He provided, used the 1/3 to the best of my ability and eventually was able to thank God for keeping my home for me.

It never dawned on me to feel the 99% did less than what God desired. I felt how they responded was between themselves and their Lord.

I will have to confess that I didn't always believe that God gave others the right to make their own decisions just as He has given me that right.

Since we don't know what burdens others carry, there is no way to determine just how far they should go in alleviating another's pain. We each have our own devils to face, and if it is our calling to dwell on another's miserable existence, we have God who is faithful and willing to tell us how much we should shoulder of another's plight.
