I usually only do that every couple weeks. The bank fraud officer advised me to limit online purchases because it was probably an unscrupulous employee of a company who gathered customer info and was selling it. Moderators Gerr Posted August 17, 2006 Moderators Posted August 17, 2006 I just read recently that if someone can manage to get information on your debit card that they can really clean out your bank account and may have trouble getting your money back from the bank. With credit cards, you can contest a questionable charge to your card. Gerry Quote

Aliensanctuary Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I recently got rid of the debit card because of the risk mentioned above and a notice from the credit union saying my account info may have been compromised. I got a new bank card, but only use it as a credit card. Now I don't have a pin number out there waiting to be plucked. It's a little more inconvenient by not being able to get cash back, but I don't worry so much about theft from my account anymore. Thankfully, my bank uses a completely different account number for the debit card. But I'm certainly going to be extra cautious now (though I thought I *had* been anyhow!). After I sign an affidavit stating that I did not use my debit card to buy cigarettes in the Ukraine the bank told me they will credit my account with what had been fraudulently charged. Would credit cards would be safer than a debit card? puddles Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 To me a credit card is somewhat safer than a debit card since the debit card drawls money directly out of your bank account and the credit card doesn't. AND you have to pay a monthly credit card bill and this usually requires a check or online transfer to pay. No monthly bills with a debit card. Just my :2cents: Quote
