A movie commentator here said that the fact that Mr Cruise's recent films (He mentioned MI3) have been less than usually successful probably had some influence on the decision. Said critic thought if MI3 had successful, Mr Cruise would have been described as "a good family man".

Not that we are cynics in Oz, of course.

From what I understand, Tom Cruise's contract was made in such a way that he was getting most of the profits, and Paramount wasn't getting much anyway. So if his behavior cost anyone money, he lost more than anyone else did.
