Dr. Shane Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Well it looks like the Democrats have a good chance to win one or both houses of Congress in the US. If they do, I am not sure anything positive will come about. Not that I am so against Democrats. I agree with part of their agenda, specifically the environmental and healthcare issues. However if they win this fall they are likely just to cause President Bush to sharpen his veto pencil and we will have grid lock for two years. They will give the Republicans a number of campaign issues for 2008 and increase the chances of the next president being Republican. If they fail, it will be a terrible defeat for the extreame left-wing now driving the party. Republicans will likely continue to bumble around in Congress and come 2008 the moderate wing of the Democrat party will be stronger and have a better chance of nominating a moderate Democrat to run for president. So the way it looks to me (and I could be completely wrong) is if the Democrats win control of Congress, the Republicans will be more likely to retain control of the White House in 2008. If the Democrats fail to win control of Congress, a moderate Democrat may well win the White House in 2008. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted September 3, 2006 Author Posted September 3, 2006 More GOP Districts Counted as Vulnerable
Quote:
Over the summer, the political battlefield has expanded well beyond the roughly 20 GOP House seats originally thought to be vulnerable. Now some Republicans concede there may be almost twice as many districts from which Democrats could wrest the 15 additional seats they need to take control.

Doesn't look good for the Republicans. I hope if the Democrats gain control of the House they can accomplish something. They accomplished nothing in the two years they controlled the Senate under Tom Daschel. If they follow that same game plan it will be nothing but grid lock with a new Republican president in 2008. In a related story... Friends of Hillary hint she may pull out of presidential race
Quote:
“I would not be surprised if she were to decide that the best contribution she can make to her country is to forget about being president and become a consensus-maker in the Senate,” said a leading Democratic party insider. “She believes there is no trust between the two political sides and that we can’t function as a democracy without it.” | As senator for New York, Clinton has forged alliances across party lines with leading Republicans such as Senator John McCain and Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives. In the eyes of the electorate, however, she is a potentially divisive figure.

Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Bravus Posted September 3, 2006 Moderators Posted September 3, 2006 Keeping Bush 'unproductive' (i.e. stopping him from doing any more damage) for 2 years would itself be a worthwhile achievement. He's done enough for his country, really. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 These areas where Democrats may make Bush "unproductive" are exactly what will give the Republicans a platform to run on in 2008. That is what Tom Daschle did for two years in the Senate which helped Bush get re-elected in 2004. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
olger Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Guess I don't care much `bout politics. I would enthusiastically vote against that Hillbillary gal, but she probably won't get that far. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Dr. Shane Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 Novak has a race by race break down for Congress. He believes if the election was today the Republicans could lose 20 seats to the Democrats in the House. Maybe I should add that link...
