Has Jesus' prayer been answered?

Has the prayer of Jesus in John 17 been answered? It surely does not seem so to me. These are amazing words!

Maybe at pentacost when the disciples were all in a room praying together, maybe then Jesus' prayer was answered. His followers were spending much time together. Sharing everything.

What is the "glory" that Jesus is talking about? That is what enables them to be one, according to His prayer, right?

But Jesus also said "I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word..." which, to me, seems that Jesus is also praying for people - Christians - down through the course of time. I think He was praying for you and me. ::points to ground:: Here. Now.

But I'm not convinced His prayer has been answered for the *here* and *now.* Maybe I'm wrong..

Sometimes it seems that it hasn't. But, who knows, maybe here and there it has happened again for isolated groups or several individuals.

Why hasn't it happened more often, or more generally and more widespread? Maybe we haven't claimed the "glory" that Jesus has given us.

Good question, Rudy. That chapter has long inspired me. There is a verse in there that is still unanswered: "Father I desire that they also whom thou hast given me may be with me where I am." Jesus is waiting with longing expectation for His character to be reproduced in His people. May that be our burden tonight.
