Amelia Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 4.5 earthquake hits east summit of Mount Rainier Sunday, October 8, 2006 Associated Press SEATTLE -- A magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit seven miles east of the summit of Mount Rainier Saturday evening at 7:48 p.m., but no immediate damage or injuries were reported. Tom Yelin of the University of Washington Seismology Laboratory said he didn't think the quake was associated with any volcanic activity. The quake was felt over a wide area and rattled homes throughout Pierce and south King County. Callers from Packwood, Maple Valley, Enumclaw and Renton reported feeling the quake. The shallow quake was followed by two smaller aftershocks. U.S. Geological Survey monitoring equipment reported the earthquake's epicenter about 2.8 miles below the surface. Ron Lambert Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 That was seven miles east of the summit, not the east summit. You scared me! When Mt. Rainier blows, it could be worse than Mt. St. Helens, and Seattle-Takoma are not that far away. Quote
Amelia Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 LOL Sorry. I just posted it as it was. I didnt notice the difference tween the lead and the rest. Toni Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I live very close to Mt. Ranier, and I didn't feel the earthquake! I was sitting on my bed watching a movie when it happened, and later when I saw the news, I was shocked! Quote Toni

CyberGuy Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 When Mount Rainier shakes watch out. If that volcano erupts more towns on in the way of a mudflow than was in the way of Mount Saint Helens. Quote Riverside CA
Amelia Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 I agree. And even though the quake was 7 miles away, I bet the geologists will be watching it more closely from now on. Toni Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Yes. Very scary! The church I attend is actually in the lahar zone. The Puyallup valley is especially dangerous, and that area is just booming with new homes right now! Large develpments, shopping centers, etc. are popping up all over. We really want to move and briefly considered that area, but nope, we just don't want to live in the path of a Mt. Ranier eruption! We'll stay on high ground, I think. :-) Quote Toni
Administrators Gail Posted October 11, 2006 Administrators Posted October 11, 2006 The man said that he didn't think the quake was associated with any volcanic activity. What else could it be? We are still waiting for Mt. Baker to blow as well. It's part of the same mountain chain Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Oregons Three Sisters has a growing bulge that is being monitered now and N.Calif has geothermal areas simular to Yellowstone. They can say its not connected but Im not so sure.
