Key Guy Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 These quotes from "Towers Online, a website of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 10/9/06. "Christians have a biblical mandate to devote the Lord's Day to gathering with other believers in worship, said R. Albert Mohler Jr. on Sept. 21, in a chapel address on the fourth commandment at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary." "I am convicted as I am confronted with the fourth commandment not about Sabbath-keeping but about Lord's Day-breaking," he said. "I am convicted that as I read the fourth commandment, Israel's responsibility to keep the Sabbath was, if anything, less important than the church's responsibility to keep the Lord's Day." The weird thing is that Mohler recognizes the 7th day Sabbath, but applies a great emphasis on Sunday, the Lord's Day, observance. If you place a greater importance on that day, it will be an easy next step to force that observance, even if the Biblical stand on Sabbath is not argued against. Mohler simply sidesteps that and proclaims the Lord's Day to be of greater value to Christians. Full text.. http://www.towersonline.net/story.php?grp=towers&id=235 Quote
Administrators Naomi Posted October 9, 2006 Administrators Posted October 9, 2006 Interesting ... signs of the times. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Dr. Shane Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Yet we are not opposed to "Sunday Laws" as long as we are allowed to keep the Sabbath holy. Clifford Goldstien admits in his book "One Nation Under God" that a secular day of rest would not violate the First Ammendment even if it was on Sunday. Indeed, in past times there have been many Sunday laws that forbid many types of work and kept many retail establishments closed. Yet these laws did not prohibit Jews or Sabbath-believing Christians from honoring the Sabbath. Now do I want Sunday laws? Absolutely not. Why? Becuase I like to go out to retail stores, the beach, roller skating and do other commercial activities on Sunday. However I do not fear such laws so much. I fear laws that prohibit me from honoring the seventh-day as the Sabbath. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Actually I do not fear either because we know that when that occurs the end is near and we can see the long awaited glorious appearing. OTOH, when the Sunday laws are enforced ... everywhere ... do you think it will be long before we are prohibited from 7th Day Sabbath observaiton? Dr. Shane Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 That is tough to say because Sunday laws have been enforced in the past and seventh-day Sabbath observance was never forbidden. The big question is if the Adventists' understanding of prophecy is correct, will Sunday laws be a prelude to seventh-day Sabbath prohibition? Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
