The Limerick and Haiku Thread

OK, I haven't been around much lately, because I just can't summon the energy any more to go around in circles riding our favourite political and theological hobbyhorses. But I still want to hang out here, so how about we all dismount and have some fun!

Limericks are often rather rude, but they don't have to be - it's just a poetic form. And haiku are even easier. Don't daunted - bust out some poetry!

Just to remind you:

A limerick has 5 lines. The 1st, 2nd and 5th lines all rhyme with each other, and the 3rd and 4th lines rhyme with each other but not the other lines.

A haiku is a non-rhyming Japanese form of poetry with 3 lines. The first has 5 syllables, the second 7 and the third 5. It's also customary (but not essential) to include a reference to a season, something in nature and an emotional state.

I'll toss in a few examples to get us going.

Let me think and see

which note shall be key

it's coming ever so slowly

even though it's lowly

continuing on reaching inside

through my mind words will ride

Here they are now I'm red

can this stuff be coming from my head?

maybe this is just a dream

no, I am not a limerick machine

for now it's bringing me a smile

even though it's just a pile

oh well at last I quit

no longer have to put up with it

open the gate come back in

silly words back in the pen

up through my arm by pass the heart

back in my mind notes off the chart
