Stan Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 During a recent ecumenical gathering, one of the attendees suddenly saw smoke rising from the trash can. "Fire!" he screamed. The Methodists gathered in the corner and prayed. The Baptists cried, "Where is the water?" The Quakers quietly praised God for the blessings that fire brings. The Lutherans posted a notice on the door declaring the fire was evil. The Roman Catholics passed the plate to cover the damage. The Jews posted symbols on the door hoping the fire would pass. The Congregationalists shouted, "Every man for himself!" The Fundamentalists proclaimed, "It's the vengeance of God!" The Episcopalians formed a procession and marched out. The Christian Scientists concluded that there was no fire. The Adventists did not show up. The Presbyterians appointed a chairperson who was to appoint a committee to look into the matter and submit a written report. And the atheist hotel manager walked in, grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall, and put the fire out. Administrators Gail Posted October 30, 2006 Administrators Posted October 30, 2006 When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be a story about a fire in the bathroom! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

That was cute, but not sure what it says about all the christians. Take a look around you at all the "activists"...those trying to do something about the evils they see in the world around us...fighting against poverty and war and injustice and discrimination and destruction of the environment... What religion do most of them follow? If I look around at most of the people who are most active in social causes around here, they tend to be atheists or agnostics rather than members of organised religion. Meanwhile the religious people sit around arguing and debating and praying. (if the above analogy was strictly correct, then the Quakers would not be sitting quietly praising God for the blessings that fire brings...they would be right in there with the atheist, putting out the fire side by side. Can you imagine a Quaker meeting sitting quietly praising God for the blessings that poverty, or war, or disaster brings?) aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
