The greatest want of the world is the want of men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true & honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty..., men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.{Ed 57.3}

I was looking for the latest posts when I came across your topic.

At first, I thought it would be something about hallows eve, (Halloween) something local Adventists I know celebrated but called it Festival Night.

There, they carve pumpkins, dress up in costumes (a man came dressed up like a woman and his wife dressed up like a man,)play games and more, in the basement of a church.

In fact, may churches will be offering a substitute for the horrible day with something in their churches in order to keep their kids from celebrating it with all their friends and neighbours.

While I laughed when I found out what you considered the countdown to ________ as scary, I find it no funny matter that many believers, including some SDA's, are willing to teach their children how to compromise.

Personally, I find it no different than when the Romans substituted many former pagan holidays including ________ (you can fill in the blank).

I could go on. Including some of EGW's thoughts about pagan customs, traditions and/or practices, but then again, I would have to omit the double standards about the holiday that will be here in 55 days and counting...

To compromise or not to compromise... now THAT's scary.

Meaning that everyday should be a thanksgiving day.....

This is true...

Now that we have gotten past Halloween, we have a bit of a resbit before the mad capped season of Xmas...

For many, a time of happiness, if not just plain craziness...

Somehow I think the Holiday’s “true” meaning is what we choose to believe and how we desire to celebrate/or not celebrate.

We can make them a time of gladness and celebration when family and friends are together. We do not have to make them the extravagant times of the year which the advertising media and merchandisers would desire.

We can make them a time of worship and thanksgiving, or we can make them a time to observe how our brothers and sisters are celebrating.

Or, we can stay home alone, listen to nice music and read a book. I’ve spent quite a few doing just that and they were really nice.

We can go back thru the years and search out the "true" beginning of all holidays and discover that they all have pagan beginnings and not celebrate any. Or, we can live in the world of today, make our own choices, enjoy family and friends and praise the Lord for the opportunity.

I do believe that it is\they are what we make it\them: Our choice!

Sorry Neil, that season was already in the stores at the same time as halloween. Now halloween is 50-75% off and Christmas has taken over those shelves and the floor space has been swallowed up by all the giant inflatable snow globes, snowmen and santa clauses ad nauseum.

OKay here is my opion on Thanksgiving and Christmas. For my family it was just that a time for family to spend together. And now that I am married it is a Holiday to spend with my Familt and one to spend with his. It a time where we can kick back and relax with our loved one for more then one day. We don't have to worry about hasing to rush home for work or school we can spend quailty time. At Christmas time the only gift that are bought are for the kids. And it is a time where my kids pick out a toy for another child that has nothing. I don't find it scary that Christmas is geting close. I rejoice at knowing that I will get to see family from AZ that I haven't seen for over a year.

.....Love others as well as you love yourself.
