Collegedale Voters Reject Liquor By The Drink

Voters in Soddy Daisy approved the sale of liquor by the drink. Collegedale, though, where several national restaurant chains had promised to locate if the referendum is passed, soundly voted against the measure. Collegedale is home to Southern Adventist University and a strong Seventh Day Adventist religious community. "A lot of people in this area," said resident Scotty Abbott, "they are very church related people so, no it really doesn't surprise me."

Jubenal Ajuirre runs a Mexican restaurant. "Some of them like to drink and they go to Chattanooga," he observed. "If we could sell alcohol, maybe we could keep the people here but I don't think we're gonna get business with alcohol."
