Angel Illustration

I just finished a new angel illustraion I thought I would share. I wanted to design new a little more detailed. Let me know what you think.

uh...looks like a blond Mr. Spock with wings.

Clothes look a bit bulky - I don't think clothing needs to be from circa Biblica ages.

I like the sparkly aura though!

Hummmm why wings? Angels dont have wings. And personally that face turns me off. Its kind of creepy looking. Your art work however is fantastic.

I *really* like the way this supernatural being is juxtaposed with the very 'real' reality of the brick paving and the park bench and fence... Really nice.

I find your art to be very creative and the fruit of real talent. Beauty and sensitivity is there.

The face is good enough to portray any heavenly being working for God’s praise and purpose.

May I suggest you just rename the painting to “Cherubim on Duty” ?

Erroneous is the belief all Angels have wings.Messenger angels do not have wings.

No mentioned in scripture of this at all when the word 'Angel' is used.

However, if we use the word Angel as a generic noun we can in a broad sense of the word say angels have wings IF we are clear that there are only certain types of angels with wings e.g. seraphim and cherubim.

Angels are spiritual beings acting as an attendants or messengers of God. They are spiritual beings a rank superior to humans in power and intelligence. There is celestial hierarchy in the created creatures serving in heaven. Arch-angel is one in top or total charge of all Angels. He is not an Angel but the ruler over the angels.

The hierarchy of Angels include human guarding angels, ministering angels for the heavenly court, ministering angels for humans, warning angels, messenger angels, angels of destructions and praising angels in heavenly court. We know the generic name for fallen angels, right.... demons.

There is NO bible verse supporting any allusion to wings on Angels. We ought to now adjust our vision of Angels by always denying our imagination to paint them with wings.

However, the possible confusion might have come about as the wings of cherubim are often mentioned by Inspiration which got written down.

Seraphim also are winged creatures of heavenly realms. Isaiah portrayed them as having three pairs of wings.

Cherubim seem to have to do with the tabernacle and guarding in their position over the Ark of the Covenant. All I can gather is that they are symbolical winged figures having duties of guarding.Two cherubim was guarding the way to the Tree of Life after the Fall. Ezekial portrays them as supernatural bearers of the chariot or throne of God. Please don’t confuse them with mythical putties. The baby-faced cherubs in barock churches are not scriptural for model of what biblical cherubs are to look like.

My question is … in the celestial hierarchy, are cherubs next in order to seraphs or are they higher?

In Exodus : And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings

In 2Samuel : And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

In 1Kings : And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

2Chronicles : And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. …. and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.

Now here next is Jewish poetry of the finest….. I glow and bask in rosepetal bath waters with all these metaphors in the sheer pleasure of reading them …….

Psalms : Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings. AND… How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. And …. yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. And…. I will trust in the covert of thy wings. And …..therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. And ….. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Psalms : yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. And…. who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea

Proverbs : Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

Isaiah : Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

Isaiah : But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

The four living creatures of Ezekial’s vision had wings, the mystery leopard in Daniel had bird wings on its back, the four beasts of Revelation had each six wings.

From Ezekiel's vision of the flying "throne" we might assume that the 6-winged cherubim are connected in some way to the propulsion system of the craft. We usually picture their wings as feathered, bird-like wings, but even our primitive airplanes don't need feathers to enable them to fly. Neither would one of these "living" creatures necessarily have to have feathered wings.

Human bodies are not designed to fly just by pasting on a couple of wings. A flying 150 pound human would have to have massive chest muscles just to get off the ground, and would more resemble a human head on a bird body. Bird bodies are designed for flight, not human bodies. Perhaps, if angels do have wings, their bodies are hollow and weigh very little.

The cherubim may very well be giants, too, dwarfing us puny little humans. For all we know, they could be fifty or more feet tall. The word for the "eyes" they are covered with can also be translated as "facets", according to Strong's Concordance.

Ezekiel saw something really, really strange and could only describe it with his non-technical vocabulary. To him, a moving, speaking, 4-faced human-like robot might appear to be a living creature.

Angels as described in the Bible can look very much like humans, or with a face shining like the sun and legs of fire, as in Rev. 10, striking fear into mere mortals like Jesus' mother and us.

I would really be impressed to see angels made to look like beautiful, alien, sun-faced beings rather than mere humans with bird wings. Same story with Satan, a fiery-red, sapient dragon able to possess willing individuals to do whatever he wants them to do.

We do Christianity a great disservice by invoking medieval images of beings that have come here from space, and the craft they use to travel in. Now wouldn't it be a stunner to find out they all have to breathe oxygen like we do and can't function in space without a protected environment?
