My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War and in others as well. Even if others do not feel this way, I want to thank all the veterans who gave a piece of their life, or indeed their very lives, in defense of freedom. It is the VETERAN , not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN , not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN , not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN , not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. Those that have volunteered for duty during time of war, knowing the danger, really deserve our utmost respect. To those that have defended it, freedom has a meaning the protected will never know. I was drafted during the vietnam conflict, with 80,000 other 18-19 year olds in November of 1966, I was one of 11 troops out of probably many thousands that didn't get to go to 'nam. I got to serve my country in the country that I was born in. So I really appreciate anyone that thanks us because vietnam was a very conflicting war and many people blamed us soldiers when we came home, instead of the government that put us in that situation. So thank you for appreciating what all veterans have done for their country.
