Those you have not forgiven, still control you.

I thought that was profound.

I suppose that is true to the extent that a reaction rises within someone in response to the one not forgiven...

That is how resentments work.

Joe hits Dan = Joe was wrong

Next day:

Dan drinks postum and remembers how bad Joe hurt him = Dan now hurts himself.

Joe dies:

Dan still drinks postum and remembers how bad Joe hurt him. = Dan continues to hurt himself.
