Administrators Gail Posted November 23, 2006 Administrators Posted November 23, 2006 What all have you got spilled inside your keyboard? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Bravus Posted November 23, 2006 Moderators Posted November 23, 2006 Heh, I just noticed a glob of something that looks like honey stretching between two keys on the kids' computer. Hasn't fallen into the innards of the computer yet, but I can't move it without making it worse... kinda gross. I have killed one keyboard by spilling most of a mug of coffee in it... Notionally we don't eat around the computer at home, but in practice... let's just say it's one of the places to scan for dishes before you turn the diswasher on. Quote Truth is important
Administrators Gail Posted November 23, 2006 Author Administrators Posted November 23, 2006 A smoothie, thick like yogourt. The keys were going in slow motion eeeeeewwwwwwwwwww Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Naomi Posted November 23, 2006 Administrators Posted November 23, 2006 A smoothie, thick like yogourt. The keys were going in slow motion eeeeeewwwwwwwwwww Are they still sticking?? Memories are made of times such as that. Years ago I spilled a glass of water on my new PC at work. Blew the whole thing! Moderators lazarus Posted November 24, 2006 Moderators Posted November 24, 2006 My last Toshiba laptop stopped working and I took it to the usual crew. The said they found that the motherboard was covered with a thick sugary substance. They summised that it had been there for some months and had most likely come from a drink that been spilled all over the keyboard. I interogated and tortured by wife and 2 sons (one 6 and one 8mths) After seeing my son (6) touch his nose after denying an involvment. I threatened a certain stress position! He confessed everthing but assured me that he had wiped it all up. It was $700 for a new motheboard so I bought a mac and will never look back. That was a most expensive glass of Apple juice/Cranberry/orange......I'm not sure. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. So, does that mean that you can spill what you like on a Mac and it won't complain? Mmmmmmmmmm -- some things are a bit unbelievable! However, my friend has a Mac and swears by it (and sometimes at it -- under his breath!) Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.
Moderators LynnDel Posted November 25, 2006 Moderators Posted November 25, 2006 All these tales of dead keyboards amaze me. I've mentioned before how I spilled a cup of hot chocolate over my keyboard and immediately and instinctively turned the keyboard upsidedown in order to pour out the drink, a move I later believed to be an error, because the liquid, instead of coming out of the keyboard, filled the hollow recesses of the keys. My job then was to pop off all the keys, wash and dry them, wash what was under the buttons, and put it all back together. That was three years ago, and my Dell is still working well, considering its age and the one '9' key that sticks intermittently. IMO, manufacturers should assume users will eat while computing. Moderators Bravus Posted November 26, 2006 Moderators Posted November 26, 2006 There do exist waterproof keyboards. But since normal keyboards are only 20 bucks or so, even for quite nice ones, I tend to just treat them as semi-disposable and not assume they'll last as long as the computer. Halfstep Denise Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 In haste and in very dim light, I attempted to set my Coffee mug down on the upper level of my desk. Ooops! Coffee spilled onto the keyboard, mouse, my cell phone, desk, and the carpet! After several minutes of of cleanup, I tried the keyboard and it didn't work correctly. My husband changed keyboards for me but he wasn't the happiest with me for a while! The Coffee Mug is now put in another location near my desk!
