Retired Minnesota State Patrol Lieutenant John Nagel spoke to Fox News Digital about how Gov. Tim Walz's policies have affected Minnesotans.

MINNEAPOLIS – A retired police lieutenant in Minnesota is pushing back against the narrative that Gov. Tim Walz is a "moderate" and tells Fox News Digital that the governor "intentionally" let Minneapolis burn during the 2020 riots because he "truly doesn’t like police."

"He is not a moderate, he has never been a moderate and here in Minnesota he has been anti-police, he has raised taxes, he is nowhere near being a moderate," retired Minnesota State Patrol Lt. John Nagel told Fox News Digital.

"He’s anti-police, defund the police, when you have police families, and we have an officer killed in the line of duty, when that family looks at the governor and says we don't want you at the funeral. That should tell you a great deal of how law enforcement in general feels about Walz."

Last year, the widow of Pope County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Owen, who was killed in the line of duty responding to a domestic violence call, told Walz he was not invited to her late husband’s funeral because "he does not support law enforcement," Alpha News reported.

Retired Minnesota State Police Lt. John Nagel blasted Gov. Tim Walz's relationship with police.

Nagel told Fox News Digital that a major reason law enforcement in Minnesota is unhappy with Walz was his slow response when asked to send in the National Guard as the city burned during the 2020 George Floyd riots, which Walz has faced fierce criticism for since becoming the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

Nagel, who is running for office as a Republican in Minnesota House District 46A, explained that he believes the slow response was due in part to a political calculation.

"We're hearing this over and over and over again, he let Minneapolis burn," Nagel said. "I think he intentionally let Minneapolis burn."

"I think it was all part of a much greater scheme because he truly doesn't like the police. [Minnesota Attorney General] Keith Ellison has never liked the police. They have been involved with people who are defunding the police."

Walz, who publicly backed "alternatives to policing" as the Minnesota City Council was pushing to disband the police department in 2020, has been widely criticized by Republicans for not doing more to support law enforcement during the riots. 

"Tim Walz let Minneapolis burn for three straight nights without doing anything," GOP Rep. Pete Stauber, who represents Duluth, Minnesota and surrounding areas, previously told Fox News Digital. "And he called the riots, he stated their actions were, this is a quote, ‘righteous anger.’ Hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to family businesses and buildings in Minneapolis."

Stauber told Fox News Digital the "vast majority" of law enforcement in Minnesota are "disgruntled" with Walz's "lack of support."

Nagel, who served in uniform for 30 years, told Fox News Digital that Democrat policies are "hurting Minnesota," causing people to leave "in droves" and argued that Walz has played a key part in the "dismantling of public safety in Minnesota."

Fox News Digital asked Nagel what he thinks voters who were not familiar with Walz need to know about him from a veteran law enforcement officer’s perspective.

 

"I think they need to understand that he's not truthful, I think they need to understand that he's power hungry, they need to understand that he's not doing this for the good of the people," Nagel said. 

 

"He's doing it for the good of himself, and he is going to be lockstep with whatever the Democrats want, and I think it would be, just take a look at Minnesota, he's ruined Minnesota along with this trifecta of the Democrats. Can you only imagine what he's going to be able to do with your federal tax dollars? And when North Korea decides to knock on the door, he and his president, are they going to be able to actually handle a national crisis when he couldn't handle a crisis in Minneapolis?"

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris-Walz campaign for comment and did not receive a response.

Minneapolis-area business owner describes store being destroyed during 2020 BLM riots

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota business owner who watched helplessly as his St. Paul establishment was destroyed during the 2020 George Floyd riots spoke to Fox News Digital about how the state, led by Gov. Tim Walz, failed to protect business owners like him.

"When the rioters first came here they went and destroyed the strip mall on the left-hand side here, I was in my shop," Long Her, owner of New Fashion Tailoring and Alteration in St. Paul, Minnesota, told Fox News Digital. "I witnessed everything and videotaped. My friend and I stayed in our shop until nightfall, and I was going to go to sleep and watch over my shop, but my friends said, 'it's too dangerous, let's go home' so we ended up going home that night."

Her, a Hmong immigrant, recalled that he was "afraid" for his livelihood when he went home that night but hoped that the destruction would be contained to the other side of the street.

Those that lived thru that, lost their life's work and property, and most importantly had family members severely injured and some killed  as they waited for Walz to decide to bring in the National Guard, are  highly offended by such garbage.

Democrats and republicans alike remember well how the smell of burning was satisfying to his wife. His daughter obviously issuing private official information  publically to the BLM thugs  regarding the police. Love the democratic sanitation process going on.

‘Walz was hesitating’: Minneapolis mayor blames governor for slow response to riots

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey accused Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz of dragging his feet while the city burned during the George Floyd riots.

Frey said Monday that Walz hesitated to send in the National Guard as widespread looting and arson took place near the police’s Third Precinct in Minneapolis. He said that Walz would not commit to sending in the National Guard while calling Frey’s response an “abject failure.” Documents obtained by the Star Tribune show that text messages, emails, and call logs back up Frey’s recollection of events.

 

“Through an extremely difficult situation, I told the truth. I relayed information as best I could to state partners. And we did what was demanded for the sake of our city,” Frey said.

“We expressed the seriousness of the situation. The urgency was clear,” he later added. “He did not say yes. He said he would consider it.”

Frey said he was told by Walz’s team that a phone call between the two men was all the governor needed to send in the National Guard as protesters began to swarm the Third Precinct police station on May 27. Walz never made the order, though a press release announcing the order was drafted by his office. On the morning of May 28, Frey followed up with a formal written request acknowledging “widespread looting and arson.”

Walz agreed to deploy the National Guard, but only 90 officers arrived that night. Protests burned the precinct building on Thursday night after officers evacuated.

Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said Frey’s request for the National Guard protection was “rather vague” at first, and then, when the formal written response arrived, “The list was so all-encompassing we could not possibly staff all the things they wanted.”

Walz’s office denied that Frey was told on the phone that his call was enough to allow the order to move forward. Walz spokesman Teddy Tschann said that Frey failed to provide the proper details on May 27.

“As a 24-year veteran of the Minnesota National Guard, Governor Walz knows how much planning goes into a successful mission,” Tschann said. “That’s why he pushed the City of Minneapolis for details and a strategy. He ordered the Minnesota National Guard to start preparing Thursday morning, which allowed them to deploy to both St. Paul and Minneapolis that evening, per the Mayors’ requests.”

 

Text messages between Frey and his team showed the mayor’s anxiety as he waited for a response, with one message stating, “Walz was hesitating.” Frey called it a “hit in the gut” to see Walz’s team call his response an “abject failure” while slow-walking the call to the National Guard.

“It was a sharp departure from every conversation we had had at that point,” Frey said, later adding, “Not just for me, but for so many in our city that were doing everything they could.”

Several buildings were burned and looted during the riots that followed the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died while in the custody of Minneapolis officers. At least two people in Minneapolis died and $55 million in property damage occurred in the riots prior to the arrival of the National Guard.

(Daily Caller News Foundation) — Vice President Kamala Harris promoted the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that has since used donor contributions to bail out violent criminals, in a May 2020 blog post.

(Harris) Harris encouraged her readers to help “the protestors on the front lines” of the riots following the death of George Floyd by donating to the Minnesota Freedom Fund in the blog post, first reported by the Washington Examiner. The Minnesota Freedom Fund went on to bail out multiple convicted murderers and other violent criminals in the years following the riots, according to court records.

“Today, in solidarity with those protesting, I am asking for your help if you are able,” Harris wrote in her 2020 blog post. “Will you make a contribution to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization working on the ground in Minnesota to post bail for arrested protestors?”(Harris)

Protestors in Minneapolis burned down or otherwise damaged over 1,500 locations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, causing an estimated $550 million in damages, according to the Star Tribune. Two people died during the riots, and law enforcement arrested 604 people between May 27 and June 2, Buzzfeed News reported.

“Kamala Harris raised money for rioters while Minneapolis burned,” Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, told the Examiner. “Her fundraising efforts helped free murderers and rapists. She should be ashamed and apologize for this, but she won’t because she loves criminals.”

Among those the Minnesota Freedom Fund bailed out was Shawn Michael Tillman, who was sentenced to life in prison this March after shooting and killing a man at a rail station in St. Paul in 2022. George Howard, also once freed by the Harris-backed bail fund, pleaded guilty in 2023 to killing a man in a 2021 road rage incident in Minneapolis.

Both men were freed after Harris promoted the bail fund, but not for crimes related to the riots. Thomas Moseley, one rioter freed by the Minnesota Freedom Fund, was later arrested for possession of multiple drugs while also possessing a firearm.

The fund also freed Christopher Boswell, a twice-convicted rapist, and Darnika Floyd, who was sentenced to prison after stabbing a man to death for not having sex with her.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund has declined having a relationship with Harris, telling CBS News in July that “we have no relationship with Harris beyond a single four-year-old tweet,” neglecting to mention the blog post.

Before Harris and other influential individuals threw their support behind the Minnesota Freedom Fund, the nonprofit was only bringing in tens of thousands of dollars a year, according to tax filings. After the wave of support that came following the death of Floyd, the bail fund raised over $34 million in 2020.

Harris “These protests will continue until those who murdered George Floyd are held accountable,” Harris wrote in her blog post. “So until then, the protestors on the front lines need our help.”"Harris"

Harris’ campaign has leaned on the vice president’s experience as a California prosecutor, with one campaign ad touting her record of prosecuting border gangs. Many of Harris’ major donors, however, have supported district attorneys who have declined to prosecute crimes.

Alex and George Soros, for instance, have both thrown their support behind Harris. The elder Soros is the self-admitted architect of a plan to elect “reform” prosecutors across the country, many of whom stopped prosecuting what they determined to be minor crimes.

The vice president previously supported ending cash bail and reducing penalties for some criminals, according to a memo from her 2020 presidential campaign.

The Harris campaign and the Minnesota Freedom Fund did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
