It is my personal position that the mission that God has given the Church today is facilitated by open, f rank and civil discussions between people who differ in their understandings of what God wants for us today.  It is on this basis that Club Adventist fosters such.  We welcome people to this forum who do not agree but are willing to engage in civil discussions of those disagreements.  It is from this perspective that CA welcomes the participation of Gustave.  He is a devout Roman Catholic who in defending the faith, as he understands it, helps us to better understand Roman Catholics.  In addition, in engaging us in conversation, he had come to a better understanding or Adventism.

Reinder Bruinsma is a SDA Scholar who has served in high positions of SDA leadership outside of the United States, and who writes extensively in English.  In 1993 he was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of London.    His dissertation was titled: A Historical Analysis of Seventh-day Adventist Attitudes Toward Roman Catholics, 1844-1965.   Andrews University published this, under the same name, as a 374-page book in 1994.  Unfortunately, is appears that this book is out-of-print and therefore no longer available.

In August of 2024, Dr. Bruinsma wrote a new. 345-page, edition of his dissertation which was published under the title:  Adventists and Catholics: The History of a Turbulent Relationship.  This book is currently being sold on Amazon for $100.

Dr. Bruinsma's work was scheduled to be discussed in a presentation titled: Adventism and Catholicism in a Changing World on October 12, 2024, at Loma Linda University.
