? 1 for the road: Girl power at Grammys

If you need proof that women are running the music industry, just check out tonight's 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Axios' Troy Smith writes.

  • Why it matters: Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Beyoncé (now the most nominated artist ever) are among the powerhouse names dominating the categories for tonight's ceremony.

The Recording Academy has reformatted the show to raise money for victims of the LA wildfires, which destroyed 14,000 structures and displaced tens of thousands.

? The Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah, air live at 8 p.m. ET from the Crypto.com Arena in downtown LA (CBS, Paramount+).

  • The premiere ceremony, hosted by songwriter and producer Justin Tranter, streams at 3:30 p.m. ET from the Peacock Theater in LA (Recording Academy's YouTube channel and live.GRAMMY.com).

Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards, billed as "music's biggest night," took place Sunday in Los Angeles. Beyoncé won the Grammy for album of the year for her genre-bending "Cowboy Carter," capturing an elusive first win in the category after four previous nominations over the course of her highly-decorated career. Rapper Kendrick Lamar was another huge winner, taking home both record and song of the year for his anthem, "Not Like Us." During the program, the Grammy's also honored emergency workers and highlighted fundraisers for LA wildfire relief. The show's host, Trevor Noah, said fundraising efforts promoted during the telecast had raised at least $7 million from viewers.

Former President Jimmy Carter won a posthumous Grammy award — his fourth overall — on Sunday.

  • Carter was nominated in the audio book, narration and storytelling recording category for "Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration," recordings from his final Sunday School lessons delivered at Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia, AP reports.
  • Musicians Darius Rucker, LeAnn Rimes and Jon Batiste are featured on the record.

? Jason Carter, the former president's grandson, accepted the award on his behalf.

  • "Having his words captured in this way for my family and for the world is truly remarkable," he said in an acceptance speech.

Zoom out: Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have two Grammys apiece. First ladies Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton have also each won.

  • Former Presidents Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon were all nominated, but didn't win.

A new Grammy category honors album covers, and the artists that make them

NEW YORK (AP) — When it came time to decide the cover image for Wet Leg’s sophomore album, the British indie rock band packed items that might provide inspiration — velvet worms sewn by guitarist Hester Chambers, an oversized head of hair from a music video shoot, lizard-like gloves — and headed to an Airbnb.
