Amelia Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Mark 14:51-52 NASB A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they seized him. Beryl Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Mark 14:51-52 NASB A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they seized him. But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked. It is believed that that quote was written by young Mark himself, and, truly, who else would know? What embarrassment! But, he must have really loved the Lord, or he would not have been there, snooping in the shadows in order to know what the mob was going to do. I love some of those "personal" bits that the writers of Scripture often put in. It helps understand the type of person they were. Beryl Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.
Dr. Shane Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Why is it pictures of Jesus with Adam and Eve always show Adam and Eve naked but Jesus with clothing? Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Beryl Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Actually, Adam and Eve were not naked until they sinned. They were clothed with the same clothes that we will wear in heaven -- the garment of light -- the righteousness of Christ. Adam and Eve only realised that they were naked when they lost the robe of glory they had been wearing. That's when they tried the fig-leaf bit! Ever tried to sew figleaves together -- before the needle was invented? Beryl Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." bevin Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 The Bible clearly says Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed Gen 2:25 |1961| And were they |8147| both |6172| naked, |0120| the man |0802| and his wife, |3808| but not |0954| they were ashamed. It is the same word used to describe the drunken Noah, the barren landscape of Egypt, the glimpse up the garments of a priest as he climbed the altar steps, a woman's condition during sexual intercourse... The invention of "a garment of light" is a clear case of EGW contradicting Scripture - probably because of her 19C NE morality. She may even be describing correctly what God showed her - and God made this edit because of her sensibilities. /Bevin Quote
Halfstep Denise Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 The first streaker should have been Adam, running to stop Eve from approaching the wrong tree!!! Too bad he didn't do it! By the way, where's everybody's funny bone? Did it get amputated? LOL!! Halfstep Denise :llama Quote "If you're all God has, is God in trouble? -- Dr. Frederick K.C. Price
Dottie Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Actually, if you take a couple of large leaves, they can be held together with a small twig--but I see a problem when the leaves dry out! Quote
Dr. Shane Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 The garment of light is extra-biblical but not contra-biblical. "the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked" Gen. 3:7 Obviously something was going on before sin that prevented them from seeing they were naked. bevin Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Shane, I quoted Gen 2:25 - it comes BEFORE 3:7 EGW is clearly contradicting Scripture - and it is interesting watching attempts to wiggle out of it. IT DOESN'T MATTER TO HER. She never claimed the Conflict Series was perfect, and she and her assistants modified the material several times to fix known errors. Why do some SDA get so hung up on trying to prove her infallible when she herself did not claim it? Quote
Dr. Shane Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Genesis 2:25 makes it clear that Adam and Eve were naked. Genesis 3:7 makes it clear that Adam and Eve didn't realize they were naked at the time referenced in Genesis 2:25. Were they naked? Yes. Did they know it? No. So something was going on there. A garment of light is certainly a possibility. No contradiction. That is what is known as extra-biblical not contra-biblical. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Bravus Posted December 9, 2006 Moderators Posted December 9, 2006 'Garment of light' is a lovely metaphorical way of describing a radiant innocence that rendered nakedness innocent and unshameful. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 "the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked" Gen. 3:7 The phrase "eyes of them both were opened" seems to be metaphorical. It is doubtful the two of them were wandering around like young kittens with their eyes closed until they ate the forbidden fruit. So something was going on either with their eyes or their bodies that prevented them from seeing they were naked. Notice God's response. "Who told thee that thou wast naked?"
