ICE aims to equip all agents with body cameras

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the field are expected to have body cameras by the end of September, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said at a news conference on Tuesday. The use of body cameras has largely garnered bipartisan agreement, particularly amid a series of recent aggressive and sometimes deadly confrontations between federal agents and members of the public. A CNN investigation earlier this year found that ICE agents were using personal cellphone cameras in unconventional ways during tense encounters, including for facial recognition and to document their actions, often in place of body cameras. The practice raised questions about privacy, accountability and how footage of the encounters is handled.
