Asia Joe Posted April 10, 2025 Posted April 10, 2025 I don't know if this is the right places or not. In the first day of the Spring meetings, Pastor Wilson slandered independent ministries. His description , tone, gestures and behavior were HIGHLY offensive. Let me remind people, it is the independent ministries who build most of the churches in the Third World. It is independent ministries that finance the majority of big evangelistic efforts. He is trying to define us as offshoots. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted April 10, 2025 Moderators Posted April 10, 2025 Most of the comments were made by someone other than Ted Wilson. The overall thrust of the comments were that organizations that were either critical of the SDA Church, or accepted tithe were independent and not ones that should be supported by SDA members. None were identified. The commentator made a distinction between the Church, as a group of members, and leadership in the Church, and suggested that criticism of leadership was not criticism of the Church. He then went on to suggest that all tithe should be given through the organized structure of the SDA Church. and not directly to the independent ministries. Quote Gregory
Asia Joe Posted April 10, 2025 Author Posted April 10, 2025 Why even bring this up? What he is describing is offshoots. These represent less than 1% of all independent ministries. They are not worth talking about. In that video, (shorted video of the whole first day), he disparages all independent ministries. His caviler remarks and the behavior of the people in the background are terrible. The whole theme of all the talks is, if you are not an official recognized part of the GC, like ASI and OCI, then it is wrong. At 7:26 in that video, Mark Finley states, "Those that did not think they were a corrective, to their perceived view of the follies of the church, ...." No independent thinks this way. Only offshoots. He is implying anybody who is not ASI (which they started) is a troublemaker. So that would be 3ABN, Laymans Ministries, AFM, Folkenburgs evangelism group (Share Him), 1000 Missionary movement (Funded by the Koreans) and the thousands of independent people who trek overseas to do mission work. This view is condescending and wrong. In Detroit, Ford Motor co had a term. Not invented here. Meaning, if they did not start it, it was no good. That was their theme for 50 years and is still in a small way a problem there. It seems the speakers in this video are the same way, not invented here is wrong and a troublemaker. Quote
