Air Force 1 is always the name given to the aircraft in which the President of the United States is traveling.  Many people do not understand why people are saying that it might cost as much as one billion dollars to convert the recent gift of an airplane that has been made to President Trump.  The simple fact is that the standard airplane that flies the President is not standard in many ways:

*  It typically flies at 10,000 feet above the normal altitude for civilian aircraft.

*  It is equipped to be refueled in flight by Air Force tankers.

*  It is fitted with multiple methods of defending against missile attacks.

*  It is equipped with a medical suite able to provide care to Its passengers in flight.

*  It is equipped with the highest level of military communication systems that allow for secure communication around the world.

*  It's ability to remain in flight for days (weeks) is governed by the amount of food and water if carries for human consumption.

NOTE:  In addition, for security reasons the plane must be totally stripped and rebuilt to assure that I safe for the President to use.

It would cost less to purchase a brand new plane.
