The last American is gone

The Seventh-day Adventist church was founded in Michigan.

We trace our roots to Battle Creek, Michigan, where the Seventh-day Adventist Church was organized on May 23, 1863. Since then, the Seventh-day Adventist world church has grown into a worldwide and wholistic movement that encompasses more than 200 countries and 23 million members.  Since 1861, the Michigan Conference has traversed through three reorganizations, with the most recent iteration in 1932.

 For 93 years, Americans have been in the leadership role of the church. Now all that has changed. 

It started at the 2000 GC session in Toronto. It was my first and Only GC session. I was shocked how few white people were there. I had joined a brown and black church. At that session, they elected people from the third word to the committees.  

In each of the following sessions, more third word people were elected to the world church.  Until today, when the last American has been replaced. 

I have lived outside of America for 20 years. During that time, I have always marveled how Americas/Canadians talked about the church as though it was an American institution. 

Maybe now, the people of NAD will realize there are but one of thirteen divisions of a WORLD church.  Maybe now they can comprehend completely or correctly understand their place in a world church.  Today, the tail will stop wagging the dog.
