Lidocine is commonly used in both dental and in medical procedures.  It is becoming riskier with the passage of time.

I am personally acquainted with the initial diagnosis running up a bill in the multiple tens of thousands of dollars and the passage of several months before the person began to very slowly get better.  Treatment can extend over a long time.  It can cause death if not diagnosed and properly treated.
