Members phkrause Posted September 21, 2025 Members Posted September 21, 2025 In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s horrific assassination, something potentially problematic emerged across Seventh-day Adventist social media feeds. I am not referring to the debates as to his sainthood or villainy, though there have been plenty of those. What I found concerning were the numerous posts celebrating the fact that Kirk was a seventh-day Sabbath observer. Half a dozen church members enthusiastically sent me links to videos of him promoting the Sabbath. https://atoday.org/the-problematic-allure-of-popular-validation/ Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Gustave Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 That was a fairly solid article you posted there Phkrause. I didn't know German SDA's gloated about Hitlers fondness of beans and abstaining from meat and other vices. Interesting. phkrause 1 Quote
bonnie1962 Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 It isn't all that uncommon, but usually it is not a nationally recognized figure so it does not capture the attention. There is a family on youtube with a christian podcast that has just recently announded they have discovered the 7th day sabbath. I have Lutheran friends that reject the idea of going to heaven or? when you die. They believe as we do on that topic. My husband's family is Catholic and the younger generation has left for the Lutheran church but reject infant baptism and requested child dedication instead, which was granted phkrause 1 Quote
Gustave Posted September 23, 2025 Posted September 23, 2025 The Lutheran Church has become fragmented with some branches now far afield of where they were. Luther definitely believed God spoke with the righteous dead - I have some of his commentaries and also wrote to a couple Lutheran seminaries who affirmed Luther did not teach soul sleep. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted September 23, 2025 Moderators Posted September 23, 2025 In my opinion, the story of Adventism in Germany during the time of Hitler needs substantial research . There was a time when I promoted specific views on this. I have been told by people more knowledgeable than I that certain of my conclusions can not be substantiated So, I generally, remain quiet. I simply say in brief: It is clear that certain SDA administrators urged members to support Hitler and the German military. What is not clear, is some of that background. phkrause 1 Quote Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted September 23, 2025 Moderators Posted September 23, 2025 German Adventists: As a result of the background of support for the German military, German Adventists often (Always?) will not allow any person to remain or become a member who is associated with the military. U.S. military personnel are not welcome to attend German services due to this. I once met a German Army Officer who was dumbfounded to learn that I was a SDA Chaplain. He was married to a SDA member. He could not become a member due to the fact that he was a member of the German Army. NOTE: I met him, one Sabbath, in a SDA Church in the US, when he was here on a mission. phkrause 1 Quote Gregory

It took me by complete surprise. I don't think it had anything to do with what you are referring to. Both soul sleep and infant baptism sounded very much like their own reading and understanding of scripture. The christian podcast I referred to was definitely thru personal bible study. Tiny Notes from Home It centers around the life of a christian family and their music phkrause 1 Quote
