aldona Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Austria - (Not Australia - I already live there! ) - To visit the places where all my favorite musical idols lived. Like Mozart, Schubert, etc. Poland - To see where my ancestors come from. (and try out what's left of my Polish ) United States - Looks like I get this wish soon (I might be going for a couple of weeks in February!!) Japan - Because my husband has been there on business and has told me all about how amazing it was and how nice the people were. Greenland - To see exactly what it has that has kept my brother going back there so often. Maybe the polar bears? Or does he just like cold places? aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? bevin Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 I have visited - usually on business - NZ, Australia, USA, Canada, England/Wales, France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, and Israel. The variations between them were smaller than the variations within the USA. There are places, rather than countries, I would like to visit. An African Animal Reserve Somewhere where I can see a very active volcano Somewhere to see an excellent display of the Northern Lights Scuba diving with whale sharks The front seat of a rally car being driven on a speed section and, you know what?, I can do all these things from my arm chair at home with a good TV and cable... /Bevin Quote
Moderators John317 Posted December 26, 2006 Moderators Posted December 26, 2006 My top 5 favorite country's to visit would be Israel, Greece, England, Ireland, and Germany. To Israel, to see as many as places as possible where Jesus walked. Greece-- because of my love for Greek literature, Homer, Plato, etc., and its importance for Western Civilization. England-- because of English Literature: Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, D.H. Lawrence, etc., and I especially want to see the Lake District that was the subject of so much of the poetry of the Romantic poets, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, etc. My English ancestors, Warren's, hailed from Cornwall. Ireland-- primarily because of James Joyce's Ulyssus that is set in Dublin, and the beauty of the countryside. Some ancestors came from there also. Germany-- because of Dad's German ancestors, Korn's, and my interest in German history, literature, philosophy, and culture; particulary the Reformation period. I've already spent a year in Germany. Next to the US, Germany is by far my favorite country. Was stationed in Mainz and later near Worms (pronounced Vorms) where Martin Luther gave his famous "Here I Stand" speech. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

bevin Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I am always surprised at the number of people I have met who want to go to NZ, and yet haven't gone. It is easy, cheap, and a great trip! You can get round trip airfares from LA for about $USA800 and, once there, you can rent a car and stay in motels and feed yourself for around $USA100/person/day. The sights are easily accessible, the locals friendly and speak english, the distances small, and the driving easy. Get some travel books, and start planning... Make sure you (a) visit Rotorua and the thermal area for at least a day ( see the Southern Alps and visit a glacier © get a jet-boat ride or a rafting ride (d) see the area around the top of the South Island (e) hike, if you are physically up to it (f) cross Cook Strait on the ferry from Wellington if the weather is good /Bevin Quote

Moderators Nan Posted December 31, 2006 Moderators Posted December 31, 2006 A generic reply - amen to the NZ comments - the locals call it Godzone and they are right. (It is not on my list to visit as I lived there for 13 years). And if anyone makes it as far as Sydney, do let us know and we will see if we can have a get together here. And Stan and Gail and Darlene and any others, September in Vancouver is sounding good but nothing finalised yet! Quote
