Or are we too close to 'the end of time'? Woody Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Since the Holy Spirit did not see the need for us to have a clear understanding in the past does not mean that we will forever not understand truth. I believe that as long as we sincerely study God's word that the Holy Spirit has a wealth of knowledge awaiting for us. So ... I have to believe that truth is progressive. Moderators John317 Posted January 6, 2007 Moderators Posted January 6, 2007 Hi Stan, Yes, I believe that revelation is progressive. God certainly doesn't reveal all the truth to us at one time. He reveals it to us a little bit at a time because He knows humanity would have been blinded by all that light if it shined on us all at once. So, for instance, He revealed who the Messiah would be bit by bit, as Hebrews 1 says. So also he revealed things about the heavenly kingdom bit by bit. And so bit by bit he revealed details about end times and the immortal life. Yet, through it all, God never contradicts what He revealed before. God is a God of order and not of disorder. It's true He doesn't reveal all truth at once but at each step of the way it all fits together into one harmonious whole. What He reveals today will not contradict or oppose what He revealed at any point in the past. Truth is truth is truth. Sometimes there are ideas we have to adjust because something God adds to His revelation shows us that some things about our picture was wrong, but that is different from part of the message contradicting another part of the message He sends. It might be compared to a puzzle that God sends to us little by little: it's all going to fit together. It's not going to be a confused mess. Seventh-day Adventist teachings all fit together like that. The temple of God's truth has strong pillars supporting a roof and if you remove any of those pillars the roof collapses. The roof won't actually collapse, but there are times when it sure looks like it's cracked and shaky. We need to repair the roof and clean the pillars but not add to or detract from them. All knowledge is dynamic - some techniques get learnt for collecting facts, some facts get learnt, occassionally facts or techniques get forgotten, explanations get thought of, tested, exceptions found, ... Ellen White said herself that before Christ returns, there will be new light recovered...over and beyond that which is now held. Likewise, she says that the science of the cross will produce fresh revelations for the redeemed throughout eternity. I'll have to disagree with the assertion that this is a polite way of saying "we got it wrong", as much as it was to say the prophets of old "had it wrong" simply because they didn't have the revelation of Christ manifest in the flesh, died on the cross, and resurrected into glory... Woody Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 One thing that bothers me about my church is their elitest attitude particularly as displayed by bragging about being the "remnant". That really turns off those that we are here to witness the Good News to. Can our message be progressive ... YES. Do we know all truth now .... NO So ... let us get rid of the elitest attitude.
