hobie Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 We had attorney Jonathan Zirkle from Liberty and Health Alliance come and go over religious liberty issues with some pretty amazing sermons as we see in these videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B_gse6sYXE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er_3Amcy3lI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S8C1Po9LM4 Then I checked with my wife and coincidentally we are going on a mission trip sponsored by Liberty and Health Alliance to Vieques, Puerto Rico so looked more closely at who they are. They state they are a 'ministry founded by Seventh-day Adventist Christians, we believe in the gift of life and whole-person health bestowed by God, medical freedom, and liberty of conscience. Our commitment is reflected in the many thousands of lives touched by our clinics offering medical, dental, eye care, and other essential services 100% free of charge to the public.' Pretty neat, we are getting on zoom to go over all our tasks and its intense what we will have to do, so we pray the Lord gives us strength and keeps His hand of protection over us as well as all those going, as we both have health issues to say the least. We go by faith and depend on the Lord when we come across roadblocks as I can say this organization does. We have been with them before on mission trips so are familiar with how they go about it, with Adventist colleges and students assisting. Well, on the zoom meeting they told us of what I can truly say shows how the devil works to undermine Gods work. The tickets for the plane flight for the students from the west coast was all set, when the flight was suddenly cancelled. As the hotels, bus rides, events are all set, they tried everything they could to find another as closely comparable as they could. But, the only flight on a close timeline was routed through New York, and added a additional port fee tax for every student, and they cannot take that off and no way to adjust. Now the students are not rich as some of you may remember from your college days. So we prayed on it, and put it in the Lords hands, but the amounts are bit much for some of them, and other substantial charges have come up so more prayers are being said. We are relying on God to see a way forward for the group, as my wife and I are former Pathfinder leaders, and used to 'roughing it' as they say. So if you keep us in your prayers, and as the Lord moves you, this is a chance to help out this group which has done much and looks to go forward for the Lord and His work. hobie Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 We have got to the island of Vieques, and everyone seems to have heard of the liberty and health alliance coming to give free medical and more at the clinic, as its a small island. But we had a hard time getting here as you have to find a connection to the ferry service from the San Juan airport, and then a hotel, as every place is booked with few options. We had to get a room at a guest house and it had no address so we had to describe the crossroads to the taxi driver, and by Gods grace, we found it. We shall see how the others do as we have to set up starting this weekend and get ready to serve the people. We need much prayers... Quote
hobie Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 Wow, we just found out the situation with the flights being halted. From what we are hearing here, it looks like a flight with Venezuelan strong man Maduro touched down on a base on the island, so all flights cancelled to the island. Much prayers needed for our nation, the members coming for the mission trip, doctors and medical professionals and others... Quote
hobie Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 What a miracle, the flight with our mission members and all the medical equipment was allowed to begin the journey to the island, while the others still are on hold. And the medical devices were allowed with no extra charge as normally any extra bags get hit, but the ladies at counter said medical is exempt.... Quote
hobie Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 They were putting the bags in for the flight and the supervisor came up and ascertained were they were headed and stated categorical all the flights were canceled, but the check in agent said, yes they all were but with the exception of this flight as the system was allowing it. No one from the airline could understand how it was still open, we know prayers opened a way and the members of the mission and equipment have arrived in San Juan and should soon be on the buses to the ferry for Vieques.. hobie Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 There are other individual member's on flights from other cities so waiting to hear from them. But the airlines are starting to show schedules for some flights, so it looks like they are trying to get back to regular service and we are hearing those from other cities are also on the way.. Quote
hobie Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 The last few members are coming, but they cannot reschedule the flights as the system will show January 8 as"first available flight ". They have to keep their flight and get rolled over till they get put in a flight as standby (those who fly know what I mean). The Adventist members are opening their homes for those who missed the ferry, and hopefully should come with the morning ferry rides... Much prayers needed... Quote
hobie Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 The stragglers have come in, the mission begins.... Quote
hobie Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Its absolutely wonderful 12 hours helping the people of Vieques with their medical and dental needs. Getting up at the crack of dawn, and getting their by 7am, feeding everyone preparing for the work, and watching the lines of people streaming in by 9am and having their needs addressed. Then getting together with them at the end of day for a chance to share Gods truth and love, with everyone getting back to their place to sleep or home, as we prepare for another 12 hour day of the mission. Still need much prayers to help hold up the doctors and nurses and other volunteers helping the people, as tomorrow many more are coming as the world spreads of the work they are doing.... Quote
hobie Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 The people were waiting at the mission site in line before we got there in the morning, they told us the line had started at 6am and was growing as we got there. The young people have been passing out flyers, and they had the Mayor on the news telling the residents of the mission event, I was amazed, but to get here was quite the journey, to say nothing of the pitching hour long ride on the ferry. So the mission is very much appreciated.... Quote
hobie Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 I just saw the flights to San Juan from the US, and they are jammed with people coming, and those trying to get back from cruises and vacations. The mission team and medical professionals would have never made it now, to say nothing of the young people from the schools or colleges. Everyone knows that it was truly a miracle and God be praised... Quote
hobie Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 We had the closing program for church and the Mayor came along with many people who had been helped by the mission, and he thanked us for the wonderful work we had done. Then we had a meal for everyone, then later a vespers program with the youth and thank them for all the hard work and ask for Gods blessing and said our goodbyes, and they are heading back on the ferry today to catch their flights. Its been a tremendous experience, and many said they will join again for another in doing what they feel is truly Gods work... Quote
