The 46 MPs from the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, the coalition League of Polish Families (LPR) party and the Polish Peasants Party (PSL) signed a petition backing the move this week. Wojciech Wierzejski, a top LPR MP, said: "Jesus is a King in the hearts of many Catholics." But the idea has been criticised by the Church in the east European republic. Archbishop Leszek Slawoj Glodz said: "Let bricklayers build apartments, tailors sew dresses, and MPs not interfere in things they do not know anything about. "MPs should pray and suffer, so that they will be remembered fondly." aldona Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 That would just be a natural progression. The Polish constitution already recognizes the Virgin Mary as Queen of Poland. It is a phrase that is heard/seen all the time in the Polish media. (of which large parts are owned and operated by the Catholic church.) If you have a look at Poland's coat-of-arms, you will see a white eagle with a crown on its head. Usually this means that a nation has a monarchy.
