Members phkrause Posted January 4 Members Posted January 4 Resisting the gods of our age As Joshua approached the end of his life, he summoned Israel to Shechem to renew their commitment to their King, Yahweh. Shechem was the very place where, centuries earlier, God had promised Abraham, “To your offspring I will give this land” (Gen. 12:7, NIV). If Israel had remained faithful, much of the bloodshed of Joshua could have been avoided. God had promised at the Exodus to drive out the nations: “And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you” (Ex. 23:28). Yet Israel’s lack of trust, which had already lengthened their wilderness wandering, again limited how much God could act for them, leading to protracted human battles. https://adventistreview.org/theology/sabbath-school/choose-this-day/ Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
