The unshakable faith of Martin Luther King, Sr.

As a young man, Martin Luther King, Sr., hated every White man he knew and the unfair system that White men had devised to keep the Black man down. His hatred consumed him. Yet on his mother’s dying bed he promised her that he would not hate anymore, even though he didn’t know how he could keep that promise. “Hatred,” she told him, “makes nothing but more hatred, Michael. Don’t you do it.”[1]
