Another Minnesota Feeding Our Future Fraudster Pleads Guilty, Walks Away with Sweet Deal
Ikram Yusuf Mohamed, a key player in Minnesota's massive $300 million Feeding Our Future scandal, pleaded guilty to wire fraud on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in federal court. She admitted helping steal over $14 million in federal child nutrition funds meant for low-income kids during the pandemic, personally pocketing about $1.3 million through kickbacks, fake meal sites, and money laundering schemes run via family-controlled companies.
Under her plea deal, prosecutors dropped potential additional charges and recommended a sentence of roughly 6 to 10 years in prison—far lighter than what some critics argue a multimillion-dollar thief deserves. Her husband, Shakur Abdinur Abdisalam, also pleaded guilty the same day to one count of wire fraud. Several other family members followed with guilty pleas on March 20.
The case continues to expose how pandemic-era programs were exploited, with over 60 convictions so far in the largest fraud probe in recent U.S. Attorney's Office history. Yet lenient deals like this one fuel outrage: taxpayers foot the bill while the fraudsters keep much of their gains and face reduced time behind bars. Full restitution remains ordered, but enforcement questions linger as the April trial for the remaining holdout defendant approaches.
