Humorist Art Buchwald has died. He was 81. He was a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist for the Washington Post. During the height of his career, he skewered nearly every political figure; but his satire always included humor.

He suffered from kidney failure as a result of diabetes, but he decided to refuse dialysis. Expecting each day to be his last, he wrote another book during the last year of his life, chronicling the highs and lows of life as an invalid.

Mike Wallace said of him that he was "absolutely a dear, wise, friendly, caring man," and that they had gone through periods of clinical depression together. Art would call Mike daily to talk him through it.

He was quoted as saying, "If you make people laugh, then you'll always have friends."

On one of the news releases it said he was raised in a Seventh-day Adventist orphange, his father came by, and he was singing "Jesus Loves Me" and removed him.
