Stan Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I often wonder, if I was Asian, Black etc, how I would feel if I was turned down for a job or position that I was qualified for. As a white person, I think I can accept not getting a position without it eating away at me that it was because of my ethnicity. Be it real or perceived, I think it would be nasty. Many who look at me think I am 100% caucasian, I am not. Anyone else have similar thoughts? Barbara Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Not here I figure if I get turned down most likely if is due to lack of experaince. I know that for the after school job I have now I was worried that I would be refused since I didn't have a frist aid class or a cpr class. But even with out these two classes I got t he jog. This next month I will be taking both classes so i can do my job better. Quote .....Love others as well as you love yourself. Matt 22:39 (The Message Bible)

Why should anyone ... no matter what their color ... have to accept not getting a position because of their ethnicity? But then we all know that while this occures frequently, the white person(s) should have no feelings, rights, needs or emotions? Stan Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 I think that most 'white' have trouble grasping the thought, that MAYBE it was because "I am not white though". It may not have been because of ethnicity, but that thought will always be there, we have trouble fully understand that impact on people. This is one thing that I like about forums, we do not know, if a person is "red and yellow, black and white" male or female, thick or thin, old or young, deaf or not deaf, wealthy or not, straight or gay, etc, etc Until we choose to reveal it Dr Cabalo is a good example, and I have always really appreciated his posts, I will not forget reading the interview Gail has with him, and the surprise I had when I read Gerry was born in the Philippines. Or when Psalmstwo Later David McQueen, mentioned his ethnicity. If only, if only, the content of a persons life, ability and skills, could be viewed in real life as they can be behind a keyboard. Administrators Naomi Posted January 26, 2007 Administrators Posted January 26, 2007 I can assure you that just because a person is 'white' does in any way give them 'a ticket to ride' ... anywhere. If you are not male enough, pretty enough, educated enough, thin enough (if demonination worker ... not conservative enough ...)you probably will always wonder if that is the reason you didn't get the job. I was not awarded a position a few years ago because my last name ended in a vowel. The Chairman of Board Of Directors said, "You can't trust anyone whose last name ends in a vowel" I was told this by two other board members. How should I have handled that: Should I have filed a law suit, picketed, or what? My choice was to let it go and went on to a different position. Stan, everything yuou mentioned, and then some are a part of what everyone on this earth has to live with. Yes, there are some personalities who have such a high self-worth that they know everything is the other guys problem. But, for many they have to face facts that they may have issues other than their skin color. Perhpas I am alone in having things wrong with me which can make me question what went wrong in my professoinal and social interactions. Did I not get the job, appointment, date, marriage, whatever because there is likely something wrong with me to make me not desirable for the position, relationship, etc. To magnify any one aspect is to be judgemental of everyone. I know you only meant the best in that statement, but... Boy, oh boy! Some of us would be in serious trouble! LOL And of those of us who judged others poorly "behind the keyboard" would be in for quite a pleasant surprise. Quote

By law ... you are not allowed to discriminate against Blacks. But with Affirmation Action ... the law actually promotes discrimination against Whites. Discrimination against Whites IS the law of the land. How does that make me feel? What do you think? I would prefer an equal playing field but the law does not allow for that. Amelia Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I'll tell you, its not only ethnicity that could cause you not to get a job. Here are the people that get to go ahead of me for any job: Men Military veterans Single mothers Anyone on wellfair or other gov support The elderly Anyone with a "right to work" voucher Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Woody Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Good Point Amelia ... I would add one more ... Illegals. As another thread talks about ... The illegals are doing jobs that most Americans do not want. The reason the jobs are not wanted is because of the low pay that the illegals are willing to work for. If there were not illegals then the employers would have to pay regular wages and All Americans would be willing to perform the tasks. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Stan I have often thought that whites are discriminated against in some job market segments, due to government fears of trangressing racial equality dogmas. So called employment equity policy usually makes it unequitable for someone. Quote

Halfstep Denise Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I learned in Hawaii not to discriminate based on ethnic background or skin color! Many of my school classmates were a melting pot of all sorts of ethnic heritage! Discrimination comes in all shapes and sizes! I face discrimination because I am disabled, in a wheelchair, White, female, short, SDA, basically vegetarian, and have Cancer and various pre-existing conditions! How's that for a list?! Praise the Lord, He doesn't loves me and doesn't discriminate against me for any reason! Halfstep Denise Quote "If you're all God has, is God in trouble? -- Dr. Frederick K.C. Price

Moderators Gerr Posted January 30, 2007 Moderators Posted January 30, 2007 If you think that racial discrimination other than Affirmative Action is a past reality, you are in denial, my friend. Gerry Quote
Woody Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I would propose that what Halfstep Denise said was the best articulation of the problem . It is not just Blacks that face discrimination and it is not just Whites that have to face discrimination. See Halfstep Denise's list for a good start.
