Dr. Shane Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I saw Doug Batchlor mention today that overeating is now a bigger problem than starvation. A quick Google search proved he may be right. Food Police To Starving People: At Least You're Not Fat Quote: The news is very good for the world's hundreds of millions of starving and malnourished people: Obesity is now the bigger problem (no pun intended). "The world has seen a remarkable shift from what was known as 'the receding famine pattern' to one dominated by nutrition-related diseases," Popkin says. "The burden of obesity is shifting from the rich to the poor not only in urban but also rural areas throughout the world." While this article downplays the issue, and perhaps rightly so, it still is an impressive statistic. That is, while starvation may still be a greater concern than overeating (because its consequeces are often a quicker death) the fact that the world population now has more people overweight than starving says something about the state of the world. "But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark" (Matt. 24:37, 38) Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... CyberGuy Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 It is not so much overeating as eating the wrong kinds of foods. Foods with to much fat or sugar will cause weight gain more than just eating to much food. It is not a coinsidence than this problem of obesity started in the age of fast food and the spread of McDonalds and Kentucky fried chicken world wide. Quote Riverside CA
