Taylor Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Last year I went on a mission trip which was for evangelism/and medical work with surgeons and the likes. While there about 8 Adventist medical students assisted our medical team. An incredibly nice young medical student by the name of Luis was very helpful and responsible. One night I noticed he looked stressed so I asked him what the problem was. He stoically said "nothing", but I could tell there was a problem. So putting my hand on his shoulder I asked him again and he broke down and began to sob. He told me about his dear brother (Jonathan) who was dying from cancer. The doctors weren't sure what kind of cancer he had and so weren't sure how to treat it. A friend and I prayed for him and talked with him late into that night. This friend's husband is a radiologist in the USA. They made arrangements to bring Luis's brother to the USA for further testing. He was in the USA for 2 months receiving testing and treatement. However, his cancer is so advanced and so aggresive that it will take a miracle for him to live. My friends got a call today saying that Jonathan, (Luis's brother) is not doing well at all and will likely die soon unless there is a miracle. They tell me that Jonathan is positively the sweetest dearest christian young man they have ever met (he is college age). They love him to pieces so have dropped everything and are flying today to Panama to be with him for 10 days. Please pray, that if is the Lord's will that He will perform a miracle for Jonathan and his family or if not that God will just give them peace and help Jonathan to not suffer any more. Thanks so much. This is a dear Adventist family. The father is a pastor who cares deeply about the poor indigenous people in his country. He often goes deep into the jungles and in small villages to give the gospel where it hasn't been previously heard. Luis is a dedicated doctor who is in his internship. Jonathan planned to go to medical school but then this cancer struck him in the prime of his life. All I can say is I hope Jesus comes back soon! Quote

Anthony! Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Father in heaven, please help this family in this time of great need. What a difficult crisis that only you truly understand. Please bless and comfort Jonathan and Luis. May your purposes and glory be made manifest in these brothers and their love for You and for each other. May all of this family be filled with Holy Spirit grace and power. May they all rest their weary heads upon the tender bosom of Jesus, their heavenly Brother. Oh Great Physician, please guide the hearts, hands and minds of the medical staff with your holy angels, so that Jonathan may find comfort and relief from this cancer. May the miracle of healing occur, if it is your will. Please fill them with the utmost grace and courage and peace. Father, thank you for considering our prayer and may the Holy Spirit translate this humble plea into the most beautiful language of heaven, and may we claim the Blood of Christ in this matter. In the Name of our Precious Jesus, thank you! Amen! Quote
Taylor Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Thank you Anthony! That was incredibly kind of you. I tell you what. Why don't we all post a prayer on here, and I will copy those prayers off and send them to Jonathan and his family. I think it would profoundly touch their hearts. Quote
Taylor Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Here is what my friend emailed me this weekend. This poor family! Do pray for emotional strength to sustain them! I just wanted to give you an update on Jonathan´s situation. This is extremely sad, he´s not doing well at all. Yesterday was a very difficult day. He was having a hard time breathing since the cancer has invaded his lungs. He had a lot of fluid in his right lung so they drained 2 quarts of fluid. He was in a lot of pain after this procedure and was very uncomfortable. They gave him some morphine yesterday afternoon and he was somewhat sedated in the evening. He and his family have asked for us to pray for God to be merciful and lay him to rest soon. Jonathan is exhausted and his family is having a real hard time watching him suffer so please pray for God´s will to be made known soon. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Cancer is so sad, especially when the victim gets to the point when there is no hope and they have no choice but to just give up. "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Taylor Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Thanks Shane. I won't have to translate that prayer for the family. I think they will definately appreciate knowing that complete strangers to them are praying for the ache in their heart and this difficult situation they are going through. Quote
Taylor Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 Well Jonathan died a few days ago. His family is sad but also greatful that he is not suffering any more. They said to tell you all thank you so much for your prayers. It meant alot to them! Quote
Administrators Gail Posted February 16, 2007 Administrators Posted February 16, 2007 Thank you for the update, Taylor Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Clio Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Please let us continue to remember the family as they go through their time of mourning and coming to grips with his absence. There is so much strength and support in the proffered, consistent prayers of many. Clio Quote A heart where He alone has first place.
