The ultimate danger to the American Republic is the illusion that destroying the other side constitutes a “win.” If the left manages to completely silence the right, or the right completely crushes the left, the resulting country will no longer be the United States.

The American system was uniquely designed to allow fundamentally different people to coexist, debate, and govern together without resorting to violence or authoritarianism. But that system only works if the participants agree to be bound by its rules. We must stop prioritizing the victory of our political tribes over the survival of the Constitution.

It is time to zoom out and recognize that Republicans, Democrats, Progressives, and MAGA are not America. America is the constitutional framework that allows all of these factions to exist. If we continue to burn down the house just to eradicate the people we disagree with, we will all be left standing in the ashes. The survival of the Republic demands that we remember, before it is too late, that we are sharing custody of the exact same country.

I fear it is already too late.
