Radical Adventism

 

In our age of International dialogue, it should not be unexpected to find self-appointed clitics of Adventism who suggest major revisions of our mission and ministry. What is surprising is to learn that Shane Anderson, the Senior pastor of Pioneer Memorial Church at Andrews University propose an extrema modification of the Adventist role for SDA Clergy.

 

Pastor Anderson is most specific in the 4^th Sermon that he preached in a series, on August 1, 2026. You may access it at the following link, and on Hope TV.

The proposal that he makes wkouold radically change how we do ministry in the West.

No settled pastors. That is the way it is in 90% of our church. 

 

We see our pastor 3 or 4 times a year. Seems to work well. No control issues like USA.

I know its not a popular message, but he is right. In the fastest growing division of the church, SSD, we have 1 pastor to every 7-9 churches. 

That district produces at least 100 baptisms per year. Often a new church plant. It is amazing.

Anyone who has taken the time to read EGW in any depth would know that the current ministry model in Adventism is not at all what she envisioned for the clergy. What is radical is how the denomination either never adopted her philosophy of ministry or moved away from it.

For the last 50 or so years, the leadership has all been college educated. 

 

I have to wonder what effect this had on ministry. 

What if the qualification for ministry was only a H.S. diploma and 4 years missionary experience? 

I think we would have a different looking church.
