Stan Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 At one time the Adventist Church was very active in the Underground railroad, they helped establish a route to give dignity back to their fellow humans to move from slavery to a land of freedom. It is well worth it to visit places like Uncle Tom's Cabin in Southern Ontario in Canada as well as other similar places in Canada. What happened? There are zillions of slaves today, sexual slaves, other slave that are trying hopelessly to earn their freedom, and will not until they are discarded as to old, or worse yet killed. Some earn $1 and are charged $1.25 for room and board. Jesus' self proclaimed mission was not to prepare people to answer 28 questions on Judgement day, (we used to think it was 27 ) but to free the oppressed. See Matthew 26 Are we doing anything now?? Dr. Shane Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I know Nicole C. Mullen does work with the issue of slavery in Ghana. I am not familiar with other efforts to deal with the situation where it exists in various parts of the world. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators John317 Posted February 4, 2007 Moderators Posted February 4, 2007 There are sex slaves right here in the US, but most of the time it is not something we can do much about because no one knows about it until the person is released or their bodies are found. One such case near Red Bluff, CA., was a woman who was kidnapped by a husband and wife and kept in a box under their bed for over 8 years. The man would let her out in order to clean neighbors houses or babysit and then she would return on her own and get back in that box. Amazingly, this woman even wrote love letters to him after he was arrested and put in jail. She now leads a normal life and has a family of her own. I have also heard of many currently being made slaves in Africa. I don't know if there's been much protest or anything done by African Adventists to free those slaves. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted February 4, 2007 Moderators Posted February 4, 2007 I had an aunt who said one of the main reasons she believed Ellen White's writings were false was because of what Ellen White wrote about slaves in Early Writings, pp. 34, 35, 286. She wrote about there being slaves when Christ returns but my aunt said everyone knows there aren't any more slaves. It looks like Ellen White was right and my aunt wrong. I wish she had lived long enough to realize her error. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
