cricket Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 This excerpt is taken from the Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide: Ecclesiastes, page 44. Bold type added for emphasis regarding purpose for this discussion. Quote: The writer Kurt Vonnegut once said: "What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured." Koinonia is the Greek word for "fellowship." As humans we were created for community, for fellowship, for human interaction. But not just any kind of interaction. After all, if you want human interaction you can go to a bar or to a football game and interact with others. No, the biblical idea is human interaction of a different kind, an interaction arising out of a community of people who, out of their love for God, have covenanted to love and care for and help each other. People sharing common views, common goals, common dreams, and a common purpose--but most of all, people who care about each other and who are dedicated to helping each other, regardless of their needs. That's what Christian community should be about. Club Adventist is a community of believers. Does it function to the standard of this biblical community? As members in this community, have we covenanted to love and care for each other? Are we a dedicated group of believers who strive to help each other, regardless of our needs? What can we do, as an on-line community to create stable fellowship in which the "terrible disease of loneliness" can be cured? Quote
David Koot Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Those are some very good thoughts, Cricket. Worth considering. And, something to which I personally would wholeheartedly subscribe. In that regard, I like the organization of C/A. There are sections for personal needs and support, there are other sections for topics of general interest, and there are serious discussion forums. A good way IMO to provide opportunities for safe interaction on a variety of levels. Dave Quote

Ellen Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Although I don't consider myself "lonely" C A is providing enough comeraderie for me to keep lonliness away. I love coming here and feel like I have been with friends when I leave. Quote
