Lack of love

On this Valentine's Day, I think of what the Lord said about "the love of many will grow cold" because iniquity is abounding

Generally speaking (or specifically- explain) do you find that our generation lacks love?

It could be in the sense of giving it, getting it, or both

Yes, I would agree that in some socialogical situations that "the love of many" has grown cold. However, I must make a case for what I see as 'normal' average-everyday people.

Perhaps I am a Pollyanna, but I don’t think that love is dead. I do believe that the complexion of love has changed. It appears that the days of, perceived, fairytale type romance have passed away. In every stage of change/growth the changes can be range from uncomfortable to devastating. I would like to think that we have witnessed the worst of the change, and our children and grandchildren can enjoy a more realistic concept of love and life.

The past 40 years have been difficult for personal love, i.e. marriage-relationship; causing a decline in the number of life-long commitments. Yet, in recent times I see young couples who are extremely involved with their homes and professions. They share in decisions concerning finances, religion, the conception of their children, of the maternity process and raising of their young children.

Perhaps I was just moving in the wrong circles, but as a young wife and mother the men just weren’t that involved.

The love, commitment and pride I see in the up and coming generation appears more pronounced than what I have seen in my lifetime. I venture to guess that the divorce rate may decrease as these couples enter into the dangerous waters of the change/second childhood

I also see a lot of kindness, caring, and generosity of strangers. The response is overwhelming from everyday people who care for and helping those who have lost homes, jobs, health.

Too often the media seems to focus on the evils of our society and over look the goodness

Needless-to-say, my statements are not all inclusive. Those individuals who choose to become involved with drugs, gangs, alcohol, etc do certainly take from the mainstream; in more ways than one.

There's a lot of love being talked about. Just about every song you hear mentions love. But read 1 Cor 13 and you will find what a rare commidity it is.

A lot passes for love these days that isn't really love, just a counterfeit.
